USA Celebrates Hockey This Weekend

Hockey reaches an all time high with the sport becoming a popular sight at frozen ponds in the North and rinks framed by palm trees in sunny California. Hockey, that has raised US players' share of NHL jobs by 20% for the first time, is being celebrated throughout the nation this weekend.
The celebration started yesterday with 'NHL picks' day. Today is 'wear your jersey' day. Saturday is 'bring a friend to the rink' day, while Sunday will be celebrated as 'local hockey heroes' day. It is the biggest event that will commence at noon and continue until 6 pm. The event will be televised by NBC.
Registrations with USA Hockey for male and female players have increased to 475,000 in 2009-10 from 195,000 in 1990-91. With this year's registration of West Wareham's Laura Clement, as its 100,000th player at the 8-and-younger level, a dramatic growth in the women's games has become apparent.
