Secret payments made by Rupert Murdoch's News of the world to Andy Coulson during his time as David Cameron's adviser may have breached electoral law.
Coulson was hired by David Cameron as the Conservatives' director of communications in May 2007 after he resigned as Editor from News of the world. The BBC said Coulson received several hundred thousand pounds, approximately 1.5million pounds from News of the world as part of a severance package that ran in installments until end of 2007.
It emerged that Coulson effectively remained on the News of the world's payroll for several months after his appointment at Conservative central office. Andy Coulson resigned in disgrace from the News of the World over the phone-hacking scandal, which later led to the shutdown of the newspaper.
